WTA250 Hobart: McCartney Kessler vs Elise Mertens final analysis
Share

McCartney Kessler (WTA #67) was surely aware she would need something special to beat second seed and «Miss Hobart» Elise Mertens (WTA #34) in the 2025 Hobart International title decider. Mertens, back-to-back champion in 2017-2018 and a runner-up last season, headed into her fourth Hobart singles final with a 19-3 lifetime record and an 86% win-rate when playing at the Tasmanian capital.

Outstanding stats that didn’t matter much though, as Kessler delivered a brilliant show of attacking tennis in the championship match. With an endless supply of feroucious groundstrokes, the 25-year American powered her way to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 victory and a second career WTA 250 title.

A former NCAA standout yet to complete her first full season on Tour, Kessler already has some unique facts & stats in her still short pro resume.
